Philmont Scout Ranch

Hiking adventures in New Mexico

The BSA's Largest Camp

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's largest National High Adventure Base. It covers 134,000 acres (214 square miles) of rugged mountain wilderness in New Mexico. At Philmont, you'll be part of an unforgettable backpacking adventure as well as interesting programs at the trail camps like horseback riding, gold panning, singing, and interpretive history. Philmont is considered by many to be a top experience in Scouting!

Planning a Philmont Trek

Philmont's summer programs, which thousands of people participate in each year, consist of a 7 or 12-day hike. Itineraries vary by length and skill level, but you're sure to complete a memorable hike during your time there.

Individual units enter the lottery for a trek in November-December for the next program year (1 1/2 years ahead of your planned Trek). Many units are wait-listed every year, so you may need to apply a couple times before getting to attend.

You can also attend Philmont with our Council Contingent on our Annual Council Philmont Trek.
