Jamborees: National, World, and On-The-Air
Share the adventure of Scouting with Scouts from across the country and world
NATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE
The first National Scout Jamboree was scheduled to be held by the Boy
Scouts of America in Washington, D.C. in 1935 to celebrate the 25th
anniversary of Scouting in the United States of America.
Unfortunately, the 1935 National Scout Jamboree was canceled due to a
polio outbreak in Washington, D.C. When the National Scout Jamboree was
finally held in 1937, Dan Beard lit the opening campfire with wood that
had been brought by Scouts from all 48 states. There were over
27,000 Scouts camped on the National Mall under the Washington
Monument. Since that time, 18 National Scout Jamborees have been
held, with the last in 2017.
The next National Scout Jamboree will be held July 20-31, 2021 at
the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. For more information
regarding Northern Star Scouting's contingent, check out our page
here. For general event information, check out the event website
at jamboree.scouting.org. We hope that you will join us for a Scouting adventure to remember during the summer of 2021!
WORLD SCOUT JAMBOREE
The World Scout Jamboree is the largest regular event organized by the
World Organization of the Scouting Movement. Just like our
National Scout Jamboree, the World Scout Jamboree takes place every
four years. Scouts from National Scout Associations around the
world take part in the World Scout Jamboree, with the goal to educate
and promote peace and understanding between cultures. The 24th
World Scout Jamboree was hosted by Scouts Canada, Asociación de México,
and the Boy Scouts of America at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in
2019. The upcoming 25th edition of the will be hosted in South
Korea in 2023. Interested in International Scouting? Check
out the Boy Scouts of America's international events page.
JAMBOREE ON-THE-AIR (J.O.T.A)
Connecting with others does not always have to be in person, and the
Jamboree On-the-Air is proof! This annual event for Scouts and
amateur radio enthusiasts joins thousands of amateur radio stations
around the world, connecting Scouts from all over the globe for a
weekend of Scouting fellowship. For more information, visit the
Boy Scouts of America's Jamboree On-the-Air page.
