Northern Star Communications Tools and Channels

The Council Communications Committee has been hard at work with new tools and channels to provide leaders and families with timely information to enhance youth members’ Scouting experiences.

The goal is to tailor them for your role in Scouting, customizable for your preferences, as well as interactive, so you can suggest content! This is a great way for committees, units and leaders to share best practices and opportunities for others.

You can submit content directly to the Communications Committee via web forms right on our “Connect” and “Stuff to Do” pages

Here is an overview (more details found on our website “Connect” page)

We've been approved by all the major carriers for our own custom 5-digit text code! You can now text the word “Scout” to Scout (72688) and be added to our text database. If your number exists in our BSA records it will be combined with your Scouting role to allow for micro targeted texted information. If you’re not linked, we will ask for more information to get you into the correct groups. You'll also be able to manually opt-in or out to receive more or fewer text messages.

Our website continues to be the central hub of all our communications, where you can find the stories, preference options, and latest news!

Still an important channel! We send a print version of the Navigator newsletter 4 times per year (August/November/February/May) to all registered leaders and a special Family Edition in February to all Scouting Households.

Our printed Calendar and Resource Guide is still being made as is the new Program Catalog distributed in August as part of the next program year kick off.
